Sea glass

Als ik het hier over Hoek van Holland heb, is het meestal om jullie mijn rommelmarkt vondsten te laten zien:

When I tell you that I visited Hoek van Holland it is usually to tell you that I went to the car boot sale over there and to show you something like this:

De laatste keer kocht ik deze babyschoentjes en weer twee Tiny boekjes: totale kosten 2 euro! Maar er is meer in Hoek van Holland, behalve de kofferbakverkoop en de bakjes kibbeling:
I bought these and some other stuff the last time I was there, the lovely baby shoes are one of the best finds of the season and the Tiny books on the back ground too. But the car boot sale isn't the only thing that attracts me to Hoek van Holland:


Over de Hollandse stranden hoef ik jullie denk ik niet veel meer uit te leggen.
As the name Hoek = the hook, meaning the sharp angle of Holland, implies there is sea and hence a beach up there. The coast line of the Netherlands and of two of the coast provinces also known as Holland, is a dune landscape. All beaches are sand beaches.


Hier kun je goed zien dat er ieder jaar nogal wat zand bijgespoten wordt; de duinen zijn nog niet begroeid.
As the dune landscape is very vulnerable, a lot of the the beaches and dunes are artificially maintained, to keep our feet dry, as this part of the Netherlands lies below sea level, strange isn't it? So we really need the dunes.


Maar ik keek vooral naar beneden...
But I wasn't looking at the dunes, I was looking down all the time, seeing this^.


Af en toe maakte mijn hart een sprongetje, was dit dan...? Maar nee, hoor ik kon geen splinter 'sea glass' vinden dat ik zocht. Ik had het al op zoveel blogs gezien, maar hier noppes. Is de Noordzee te klein? Wordt het strand te goed schoon gehouden? Geen idee!
Sometimes I kept my breath, did I finally....?
I was looking for sea glass. I had seen it in so many blogs, but never searched for it over here, neither could I remember ever seeing it here. When I found glass, every time it was the same: it was just a piece of broken glass, not the real worn sea glass I was looking for. I don't know why I couldn't find it. Are the shores here kept so clean that there is a minimum of glass? Is the North Sea too small to provide for sea glass?


Na 15 kilometer wandelen zei hubby: nou hier heb je dan je zee glas, XD!

At the end of our 15 kilometer walk hubby said: There you have your sea glass: XD: pointing at the 'glasbak' on the beach! (glasbak= the container where you put your glass apart from the other garbage in order to have it recycled, I don't know the English word)
Funny guy huh? :-(


Je kunt je dus wel voorstellen dat ik in de wolken was met de prijs die ik bij Alison Gibbs won. Helemaal uit Australië stuurde ze zeepjes en badzout van Cath Kidston en....SEA GLASS, eindelijk!
Now you can imagine that I was thrilled when I discovered that I won Alison Gibbs' birthday give away. Yes you're right: not only two Cath Kidston soaps and bath melts, but you are looking at a baggy filled with SEA GLASS!!


In dat mooie pakje zat dit prachtige hart! Alison maakte het zelf en ik geloof dat zoiets ook in haar winkel te koop is.
Inside the lovely parcel was this gorgeous heart, that the Alison made herself, I believe similar ones are for sale in her shop. This heart is in my studio now, but it was too dark to take photos today.

Ondanks het slechte weer heb ik toch geprobeerd het sea glass mooi op de foto te krijgen, maar het komt het best tot zijn recht in zonlicht. Bedankt voor alles Alison!

Terwijl iedereen denkt dat ik zeker ook Halloween vierde, was ik gewoon een weekendje weg. Ik logeerde bij mijn nichtje, en het peper en zout stel was hetgeen dat nog het meest aan Halloween deed denken, verondersteld dat het pompoentjes zijn en geen tomaatjes.

While my American blogfriends were celebrating Halloween, this was the most Halloween I could get last weekend:

I was staying at my cousins', having a great time, playing with this one and his brothers:


Wij hadden dikke pret met deze ^ schatjes. Is er iets schattiger dan puppies? Mijn nichtje of liever gezegd hun Bichon Frisé Cleo had er 6 en er zijn er nog 3 te koop, als je interesse hebt kun je mij mailen. Het zijn kruisingen tussen een Bichon Frisé en een Jack Russel Terrier.
Is there anything more cute than a puppy? This is one of the four Bichon Frisé x Jack Russel terrier puppies that my cousin has, or to put it better; her bichon frisé Cleo has. My cousin keeps one. Three puppies are still for sale (you can email me if you are interested).
When I visit my cousin we always go to a flea market. It's not the perfect season for outdoor flea markets anymore, but we didn't care. We have way too many things already, so we decided to buy not too much or just small things:


Als ik bij mijn nichtje ben gaan we altijd naar een vlooienmarkt. Het seizoen is wel een beetje over, maar omdat wij vinden dat we eigenlijk al te veel hebben besloten we voor kleine dingetjes te gaan, zoals dit blikje kroontjespennen.

Ik kan nooit nee zeggen tegen vintage kerstversiering.
No matter what, I never can resist vintage Christmas ornaments. The bells still ring, but the little trumpets are silent (the violin doesn't make any sound either...).


En ook niet tegen Tiny boeken uit eind jaren '50 met de tekeningen van Marcel Marlier, die met die prachtige titelbladen, zie rechts op de foto.
Neither can I resist any bright colored childrens books. I love the Tiny series from the late 50-ties, translated from French, illustrated by Marcel Marlier. When you are looking for them, only buy the ones with the title page shown as on the photo above, these are the best!


Alle goede voornemens ten spijt, kwam ik toch ook met wat groters thuis: deze schaal van een lampetstel met nog een bijbehorend kammenbakje en een dito zeepbakje, voor 2 euro 'compleet' kon ik het niet laten staan.
But in the end I couldn't resist this bowl, and two matching containers that obviously belonged to a washing set. The jug is missing of course and perhaps a chamber pot. It is flawless and was only 2 euros (about 3 usd).


Hij doet prima dienst als fruitschaal in de blauwe keuken!

What ever happened to the lamp, the box and...?

Hello dear friends!

Thanks for your sweet comments about my 'me' project for Natasha's challenge last time. Now let's see what happened to the lamp and the box, but first I promised you to show you this:
Hoi allemaal, bedankt voor jullie enthousiaste reacties op mijn 'me' project voor de uitdaging van Natasha. Ik heb nog wat 'me' projecten afgemaakt. Allereerst is het Halloween huisje gevuld met vooral vintage dingetjes: een oud horloge op 12 uur gezet natuurlijk, een oud apothekersdoosje, een antiek porceleinen poppenkopje. Het pompoentje en het heksenhoedje heb ik van vilt gemaakt. De chocolade ogen kreeg ik vorig jaar uit Disneyland Parijs van onze jongste, omdat ik zo van Halloween spulletjes hou, tsja, wie wat bewaart die heeft wat!


(Due to lack of daylight I had to take the photo this way, but I hope you just look into the small compartments, sorry!) I filled the small Halloween house with fun stuff: I made a small felt pumpkin. Put a vintage clock on 12 o'clock permanently, put some orange pills next to an antique cardboard pill box (I have a small collection of these vintage pillboxes). I made a tiny felt witch hat for an antique doll's head witch. The eyes were souvenirs from Disneyland Paris, my son brought them as a souvenir for me last year. It's fun to use all kind of vintage materials to foof the house up!

Iets op de tafel (de buit van een weekend brocanteren met mijn nichtje) inspireerde mij tot de lamp aankoop...


At the end of Summer I spent a weekend hunting for brocante with my cousin and I bought all this^, which was less than what we used to score. Something on the table inspired me to buy the lamp...
Ik trok de draad eruit en zaagde de lamp uit elkaar, vulde het gat en verfde een deel ossenbloed rood en...


Do this^
Gebruikte het om de torso (inmiddels schoongemaakt en met thee gewassen) wat authentieker te maken. Was ook nog op zoek naar houten schijven voor op de 'armen', maar kon helaas nix vinden, heeft iemand tips? De tags die erop hangen heb ik gewonnen op Natalea Kandefers blog Kandeland.

And...
So after cleaning and teawashing the torso I adjusted the painted lamp part to give the torso a more authentic look. If you buy those ornaments at the wood store they are soooo expensive. The three tags on the body were sent to me by the lovely and very talented Natalea Kandefer. I won them at her give away at Kandeland. One side of the tags is sweet the other side is sinister. Thanks Natalea!
En zo ziet de torso er nu uit. Ik heb er ook tags aangehangen die ik vorig jaar met Debra swapte en cocktailprikkers die ik met Wanda swapte. Verder zit er nog een klein beetje van mezelf bij :-).


And now Natalea's tags have company of the tags from Debra, that I swapped last year. The vintage Halloween cocktail pins come from Wanda, as part of the sweet and sinister swap last year and there is a little bit of me too.
Deze bijouteriedoos kocht ik van de zomer in Gouda. Ik wilde er een soort van Halloween medicijnkist van maken, maar eindigde uiteindelijk anders...


And now for the vintage jewel box I bought in Gouda last summer. I was planning to use it in my Halloween decor filled with jars and potions, but it ended up like this:
Ik verfde de binnenkant zwart en verving de rode voering door een zwarte, vervolgens vulde ik hem met vintage bling plotseling...


I spray painted the inside black and replaced the red lining with black, filled it with my vintage rhinestones and suddenly...this black bird dropped in... eeeek what a nightmare. She just fetched one of my rhinestone chains...
streek deze vogel op de doos, greep een ketting IEIEIEIEIKKKKK. Gelukkig had ik de tegenwoordigheid van geest om snel een foto te maken ;-). Weet iemand soms met welke vogel we hier van doen hebben? Bedankt voor jullie tips en comments, tot snel xoxo LiLi M.

It's all about ME!

I don't know about you, but I always have about 8 million projects in mind. Of course a lot of projects just stay there, simply because I have to do other things. On top of that I am very easily distracted and think of new projects all the time. The very talented Natasha Burns had a genius plan: why not do a project just for yourself? Make something to hang on that wall in YOUR room, finally knit a sweater for YOURSELF! I immediately liked the idea, as I hardly have any work of myself. I was about the first to sign up...but...as always when it comes to 'me time', I started...yesterday...and Australia is ahead of us in time :-(

Vandaag zitten we allemaal klaar voor de 'It's all about me' challenge, georganiseerd door Natasha Burns. De bedoeling is om nu eens speciaal wat voor jezelf te maken, leuk dacht ik, dan maak ik eindelijk mijn Halloween project voor volgend jaar eens af...of zal ik toch wat nieuws beginnen?
I decided to finish this doll-box that I started last year for Halloween and who was standing about a year to be finished now...But what about something new? The dresden project I promised you last time?


Ik had jullie toch beloofd dat ik nog iets met die dresdens zou doen? Ik heb een ideetje in mijn hoofd met van die glazen 'doosjes'.
I bought these glass boxes (and at least one other that is wandering through my studio) at the thrift store.


Eerst heb ik er kleine houten spoeltjes onder geplakt die ik in Amerika kocht.
I glued some wooden spools underneath the one that I am going to use for this project. I bought those spools at Michaels' when I was in the States. And then... I started several other projects, I just couldn't stop and now it's four o'clock at night and....


En vervolgens ging ik startte ik nog eens een stuk of 10 andere projecten. Ik begon met dit platen album dat ik van de zomer in Hoek van Holland kocht om er een plakboek van te maken.

Dit kooitje van de Action wachtte al een hele tijd op een make over:
This small birdcage that can be bought at the Action store for about one euro, was waiting for a make over for months:


Zwart gespoten vind ik het veel leuker, ik heb er maar ff een vogeltje in gedaan, ik wilde er eigenlijk een klein feetje in maken. Dat komt nog wel.
So I spray painted the cage and put a little Halloweenish bird in it. I was planning to put a fairy in it and I will do that when I have more me-time.


Dit kocht ik voor 50 cent op de fancy fair van de kerk...

En nu hoef ik het alleen nog maar te vullen met griezelige dingetjes, het eindresultaat hoop ik volgende keer te kunnen laten zien
I only have to fill it with more small Halloween decorations! I hope to show that the next time.

En ik startte met de lamp uit elkaar te zagen....Rond middernacht bedacht ik toch dat het beter zou zijn in ieder geval 1 ding af te maken....

En dat is gelukt!!! Hier is het glazen doosje, beplakt met zwarte dresden bandjes, ik heb er een zijden kussentje in gemaakt en er een klein heksje in gedaan. Een betere foto bij daglicht volgt...als ik uitgeslapen ben...
Here is the glass box, with black dresden trims, there is a small silk pillow in it and a cute little witch, I love it, if I may say so. I'll show you a better photo in the morning. Now this was what this challenge was all about, to make something for ME!

Halloween: a hauntingly magical celebration

Lieve allemaal, welkom op dit nachtelijk uur, het is net 17 oktober en weer tijd voor de jaarlijkse Halloween viering van Miss Vanessa...mmm ik heb nog geen idee wat ik zal doen op mijn blog...Shhshshshtttt! Kan het wat zachter? Iedereen slaapt hier, wie zit er zo irritant te kloppen? Nou zeg...ligt er toch een pakje op de deurmat. Wat zou daar inzitten?

Shshshshhs!!!! It's just past midnight October 17th. Everybody has gone to sleep. Today is Miss Vanessa's hauntingly magical celebration of Halloween. And guess what? I haven't got a clue of what I am going to show on my blog...better hurry, but shshshshshhshs...be quiet....who is that knocking? Stop that!!! Ooooh it's a package....someone delivered a package after midnight, now how spooky is that? .......

Het enge gaat NU komen, nou zo'n gedroogd bloemending, da's pas eng!! Voor 25 cent gescoord bij de kringloop!
And of course my grandmother and my great great grandmother...But this is no surprise... after all we found out that I am a witch last year...remember....?

Een paar weken geleden won ik een kadobon van 25 dollar bij de Speckled Egg en ik 'kocht' er onder andere allerlei zogenoemde dresden bandjes van, eindelijk had ik ze! Ze zijn trouwens nu in de aanbieding hier.
A few weeks ago I won a gift certificate of 25 USD, at the Speckled Egg to spend at the Speckled Egg webstore. Now I didn't have any trouble to do that. Look what I choose. I decided to choose a lot of dresdens... to do this:

En dit kan je dus onder andere doen met die dresdens! Ding openmaken, droogbloemen eruit, Halloween dingen erin, ding dicht..mmm nou past die ring niet meer zo goed en dus gebruik je de dresden. Ik heb nog een grappig idee hiermee, binnenkort op deze blog...
So you throw the dried flowers out, put some fun Halloween stuff in put the ring back. Mmm doesn't fit that tight anymore huh? Now the dresden comes in! Heather is having a sale on dresden trims right now, grab your chance here! I have another fun idea with the dresdens, so stay tuned!

October is breast cancer awareness month. Each year the Dutch Cancer Society, the Queen Wilhelmina foundation sells pink lucky bracelets, to support the research and information to the public of this type of cancer. We all know by now how important that is. This year Dutch celebrity Danniëlle Overgaag designed the bracelet:

Elk jaar laat het KWF een simpel roze lint armbandje ontwerpen door een BN-er. Dit jaar is dat Daniëlle Overgaag die een felroze (die felheid die je nodig hebt om borstkanker te bevechten) bandje ontwierp met een wensbeentje (wishbone), waarvan de bedoeling duidelijk mag zijn en een hangertje met een koningin erop, voorstellend Koningin Wilhelmina, naamgeefster aan het KWF. De armbandjes kosten nog geen 3 euro en de opbrengst gaat naar onderzoek naar en voorlichting over borstkanker. Kopen dus!

Hallo allemaal, ik hoop dat het lekker gaat met iedereen. Ik heb nog geen gelegenheid gehad om jullie te laten zien wat ik Kitty stuurde voor de 'I thought of you swap', georganiseerd door Stephenie:


Hello! I hope everything is fine with you. I still have to show you what I sent to my lovely partner Kitty for the 'I thought of you swap', hosted by Stephenie. Of course Kitty already made a lovely blogpost about my part of the swap here.

Doosje beplakt met behangpapier en daarin allemaal blauwachtige hebbedingetjes.

Deze doos zagen jullie al. Ook met behangpapier beplakt en wat spullen er nonchalant opgeplakt in het envelopje zit een briefje dat verwijst naar deze swap.
I already teased you with this one! The box was filled with:

En dit zat erin: oude papieren om te knutselen, 2 stempelsets, een Eiffeltoren sleutelhanger, kant stof, zelfgemaakte labels...
Some ephemera, two stamp sets, some labels and a few pieces of fabric, as I hoped that Kitty would make a fabric journal some day.

De hele buit voor Kitty: zij wilde graag religieuze zaken hebben, dus heb ik er ook nog een oud bijbeltje en een psalmenboek bijgedaan. In het vogeltrommeltje zit een nestje met een vogeltje. Het kussentje is gevuld met lavendel. Onder de zwart witte spulletjes zit ook een antiek schoteltje. Kitty heeft in deze post ook aandacht besteed aan wat ik haar stuurde.
So this^ was in the parcel, starting at 12 and going with the clock: the ephemera box, a small book about autumn flower fairies by Cicely Mary Barker, a vintage bird tin filled with a little nest and a bird, an antique plate with some black and white goodies, the wallpaper box as seen above, a linen glittered cushion, filled with lavender, a bible and a hymnal, both antique and in Dutch.
Just after I mailed the parcel, I discovered...

Kwam ik er de volgende dag toch achter dat ik een trommeltje vergeten was in te pakken :-(. Dus opnieuw naar het postkantoor. Kitty waarschuwde ik dat zij haar swap in 2 delen kon verwachten.
a tin filled with these^. Oooh I forgot the vintage dolls' head and some other stuff, I couldn't stand it, so I fetched an envelope, filled it and went back to the post office. I warned Kitty; there will be more when you receive a package or an envelope.

Kitty's parcel got here first and I was totally overwhelmed to say the least. Remember this? I emailed her to thank her and sent her this photo:

Kitty's swap arriveerde het eerst en ik was totaal overdonderd, jullie herinneren je vast nog het pakket. Ik stuurde haar onmiddellijk de bovenstaande foto; wij zeggen toch altijd waar er 2 ruilen moet er 1 huilen, nou ik vreesde dat ik dat niet was deze keer. Dus hup, rap nog een extra pakket gemaakt...
Kitty, we always say: when two are swapping, one has to cry. Unfortunately I have to say; it is definitely not me who is going to cry this time, so I'll send you another envelop, which will express my gratitude to you, as well it will do you a little more justice. So I went to the post office for the third time:

Oude rekeningen, vintage behang, oude prenten. Uiteindelijk leek mijn deel van de swap meer op Sinterklaas, die steeds wat in je schoentje doet, dan op Kerst! And so this wonderful swap was a little more like a visit from our Sinterklaas, who brings the parcels one by one for starters, than a visit of father Christmas!
This was such a wonderful swap, I have so many fond memories of this swap. I think back with happy feelings, I do hope Kitty does too. Thanks again Stephenie for teaming me up with the best partner I could wish for!

A VW minivan and extras from down under.

Kijk eens wat daar de hoek omgereden komt: een volkswagenbusje!

Look what's driving there around the corner? It's a cute VW minivan painted by the very talented Natasha Burns of Natasha Burns' Artistic creations! Yep ladies the four-leaf clover did it again! I won Natasha's give away during the 'revamp it' challenge and I was thrilled of course. It took me weeks to pick one of the beautiful prints that Natasha offered me. What to choose? A pink prom dress or a blue one? Finally my family, yes hubby too, choose the pink VW minivan. Pink? You thought you saw blue, no?

Tijdens de revamp-it challenge bij Natasha Burns van Natasha Burns' artistic creations won ik haar give away. Aanvankelijk dacht ik 1 afdruk van haar schilderijen, maar ik won er 3!
Here's pink! And to my surprise, I didn't read well the first time, probably of utter excitement, Natasha told me to pick three (yes 3!) prints. Now I could have one of the prom dresses as well!
Now look what she has sent me:

En Natasha maakte er 5 van! Leuk hè, nu heb ik van alles wat! Natasha heeft trouwens alweer een nieuwe uitdaging georganiseerd, voor details kun je hier kijken. Aan het blauwe volkswagenbusje heb ik goede herinneringen, nu wel! Mijn oom reed in de jaren '60 in zo'n busje en als er bij ons thuis iets te doen was dan kwamen hij en mijn tante met dat busje en achterin zaten dan mijn grootouders. Ik schaamde me een ongeluk. Konden mijn opa en oma nou niet met een gewone auto komen, net als alle andere opa's en oma's? Ja, zo'n kind was ik nou.
No, you didn't loose count, Natasha just sent me two extra prints! Thanks a million! I love them all!

Now I have one, no even two prom dresses too. You might think that I photographed them oddly, well that is right, to prevent them from being copied by evil non creative people. I bet you envy me, but Natasha Burns has something in store for you too: a brand new challenge; look for details here:

All prints are really gorgeous but the blue VW minivan is so special to me. My uncle used to have a glass company and drove one of these vans, just the same blue, back in the sixties. When we had a birthday or a family gathering at home, he and my aunt used to come with that VW minivan, having my grandparents in the back seats. I was soooo embarrassed. Why couldn't my grandparents come in a normal car, just like everybody else's grandparents? Why did they have to jump out of that car? Yes I was that kind of child.

Het zal jullie verbazen, maar er zijn dagen dat er ook iets het huis verlaat! Mijn blogrvriendin Stacey is net verhuisd. Nu vond ik zo'n kaboutertje waarvan ik wist dat zij er dol op was, dus heb ik hem naar haar opgestuurd als een soort van gefeliciteerd met je nieuwe huis-cadeautje. Iedereen kan toch wel een kaboutertje in huis gebruiken?
It may surprise you, but there are days that something leaves the house too! Stacey my blogging pal from Flotsam and Jetsam has recently moved to a new home (and a new booth too). I happened to know that Stacey wanted to have a little gnome charm and when I found one I sent it to her as a little gesture for her new home. We all could use a little gnome in our house, don't we?

A closer look: House the Shameless (Huis de Onbeschaamde)

Vanwege een niet aflatende stroom spam comments heb ik de moderator aangezet, sorry!

Hoi allemaal, Ik weet niet of jullie nog zijn gaan wandelen tijdens het open monumenten weekend. Ik had niet zoveel tijd, maar wilde natuurlijk per se een paar panden van binnen bekijken. Bijvoorbeeld Huis de Onbeschaamde, waar ik vorig jaar te laat voor de deur stond. Het huis dankt zijn naam aan het jongetje in het timpaan. Jongetje....hij is bijna 2 meter lang! Het verhaal gaat dat drie broers wedden wie het meest schokkende beeld op zijn huis zou zetten, maar het verhaal kent geen afloop en zal vast verzonnen zijn. Toen de jonge koningin Wilhelmina op haar kennismakings tournee de stad Dordrecht aan deed, liet de burgemeester het jongetje een oranje sjaal in zijn handjes houden, zodat de sjaal precies voor zijn ... viel.

Hello everybody out there, remember that I mentioned House the Shameless in Dordrecht last post? I didn't have a great photo, as the streets down town are narrow, but this building can be seen from the other side of the water as there is a 'steiger', a landing place from the water, now a parking lot, over here. Here we can see the small guy (he is actually about 2 yards in highth) a little better.

This house was built between 1650 and 1665. Rumor has it that this house was part of a bet between 3 brothers: who of them dared to build the house that would be the most shocking! But no one knows which other buildings belonged to the bet and neither which building won, so it's probably just a tale. As you can see the little guy is not ashamed at all, to show his private parts. But when the very young Queen Wilhelmina was touring through the Netherlands, at the end of the 19th century, the Mayor of Dordrecht was ashamed of this building, so they gave the little guy an orange sash between his hands, orange being the color and the name of our house of royals. The sash was of course covering what should not be shown in public.

Last weekend the building was open to the public; let's go inside:


Nu het open is voor publiek gaan we natuurlijk even naar binnen.
Standing in the first hall before the swing doors, that prevent the wind blowing in (if they are closed of course), looking at the corridor.


Aan de voorkant van het huis Lodewijk XV elementen. Het huis is in 1993 gerestaureerd door de Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser.
The building was bought by the 'Hendrick de Keyser' foundation, a foundation that restores old buildings to preserve our heritage, in about 1993. After restoration the buildings are let, in this case 'Inaction' office is lodging the building.


Bij de restauratie zijn originele Dordtse kleuren gebruikt. Heftig hè deze?
The building is restored in colors that were originally used in Dordrecht during the last centuries. Quite amazing colors, don't you think?



Louis XV (fil of Marie Antoinette) style dominates in the front of the building.

Op deze foto kun je de kleuren goed zien. Ik vond het wel wat hebben.
The doors, also Louis XV style and matching plaster above. Here you can see the colors of the room best. It is a very bold turquoise and a matching darker blueish green.


Ik zou hier wel gelukkig kunnen zijn, lekker ruime trap ook, heerlijk om met je hoepelrok vanaf te zwieren, maar de fiets zou ik vandaag ergens anders gestald hebben.

Heerlijk licht, vaak zijn die oude huizen zo donker, niet mijn stijl.
Many older buildings over here are very dark inside, due to the way of decorating, but this house is so light, you can see why; a huge beautiful glass window in the staircase. Yes, I could be happily living here.


Aan de achterkant een heel andere, zakelijke stijl. Die smile panelen vond ik zo grappig.
In fact everybody should be happy here! Look those smile panels in the back office! Smile was the name of the company that rented the building before, if I understood well. This part of the building is decorated in a kind of early 20th century Frank Lloyd Wrightish style, business like. It hosted a bank at that time.


De keuken uit 1757 zit er nog gewoon in. Kom daar nu eens om, om een keuken die langer dan 20 jaar meegaat.
Let vooral ook op de slimme verwijderbare elementen zoals de magnetron.
Also in the back of the house is the kitchen; submitted in 1757 and very cleverly updated with removable elements, like the microwave oven.


De mensen die hier werken lunchen hier iedere dag. We waren het er allemaal over eens dat hier werken een voorrecht is.
People who work here lunch here every day. We all agreed that it is a privilege to work in such a beautiful place.


Normaal gesproken staan hier dus de potjes pindakaas en jam, maar vandaag zit alles in de kast, jammer dat die fiets er niet bij paste.
Usually there is peanut butter and sugar on the table and all kinds of cups hanging around, but for this occasion the cupboards were used. You could store anything in here! Too bad the bike didn't fit in.
Aan de achterkant van het pand bevindt zich de monumentale beuk de oudste boom in Dordrecht. De tuinen van monumenten zijn vaak ook monumenten. Daarover een volgende post.
Behind the building is a garden, which is beautiful too. The oldest tree in Dordrecht, a beech, stands here proudly, knowing he has seen it all and will see it all, long after we have been gone.
The gardens of the monuments are monuments by themselves, but I'll keep them for another post.

My hometown has over 1500 monuments, now I won't take you to each and every one, but a few more...? Please?
Zijn jullie al moe? Afhaken kan natuurlijk elk moment, maar ik ga nog even verder:

met de Rozenhof. Een villa dat als woonhuis voor een gezin met 2 kinderen werd gebouwd eind 19de eeuw.
Let's go to Villa Rozenhof (rozen = roses, hof = an old fashioned word for garden). Built at the end of the 19th century as a house to live in for a young couple and their two children. The house was built outside the old town in the newer 19th century part, not too far away from the at that time new railway station, the part that is usually neglected during the monument weekend.


Hier mocht je alleen naar binnen onder begeleiding van een gids. Wat hij vertelde was heel erg interessant, maar het was haast onmogelijk om foto's te maken, omdat het zo druk was.
Admittance was only permitted with a guide, very interesting, but it's almost impossible to make some decent photos as the tour was rather crowded. Which I don't like, but at the same time I think it's very good that there is so much interest in historic buildings.

Alle stijlelementen zijn uit de kamers verwijderd door bedrijven die later in het pand kwamen. Alleen de kamer van de heer des huizes is nog in oorspronkelijke staat.
All style elements were removed from the house by earlier occupants. Only the Master room still had the fireplace and the original paneling. This house was built and decorated in neo classic styles. Which is in short: every thing that is done before combined. At the end of the 19th century a new style evolved:


We eindigen met het Art Nouveau pand waar de Bouman stichting in zit, die verslavingszorg bieden.

Here is the residence of the Bouman GGZ, this is a place were addicted people are helped.

Hier te rechter zijde is een deurpost smaller gemaakt, zodat er ook een deur in past van de bouwmarkt. Jullie zien zelf wel dat dat helemaal niet mooi is.
The right side of the swing door. If you look to the door closest to you, you can see that the door hole is altered, it's made smaller and a new, totally unfit door was replaced. Look at the original door a little further. But I have to say the condition of this house was good when you think there is an office in it.
